College of Nursing

Nursing education and training at Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital started when the Hospital itself was established in 1922. Recognizing the requirement of nurses at the Hospital, Miss Margaret Buckley a nurse missionary from Wales, took several local ladies under her wing and gave them nursing training from 1919 to 1930. Thereafter, the training and supervision of nurses was taken up by highly qualified matrons like Miss Amy Catherine Bullock and Miss Margaret Owens.

With the handing over of the Hospital to the KJP Synod at that time, local nurses thereafter took up the mantle for the training and education of nurses. The nurses trained in the Hospital also assisted with running of the Rural Health Centers of this Hospital. The School of Nursing was recognized by the Indian Nursing Council through the Assam Nurses Midwives and Health Visitors Council. At one point of time the School of Nursing also conducted the Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) Course.

Through a directive from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the Indian Nursing Council, the School of Nursing at Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital has been upgraded to a College of Nursing from the academic year 2022-23.
