The Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital is focused on patient care and health education in the spirit of Christ. It is meant to implement care for patients and teach students in the various courses, to implement the Christian concept that we are the instruments in the hands of God, and to work in the spirit of Christ, to the glory of God. The hospital would make available to the public, irrespective of caste or creed, the facilities of the hospital, to provide high quality health care. This shall be in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.
The Nursing Services of Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital was started since the inception of the Hospital itself. From the beginning, training in caregiving was given to the female nurses.
The Welsh Mission came to Shillong with the motive of having a center where patients could come for their health care needs without the burden of insufficient finances.
As early as 1946 the hospital was concerned with bringing healthcare to those who could not come to the hospital. So began the travelling dispensary in 1947 which ultimately led to the creation of the Rural Health Centers.
