DR. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital was founded in the interest of helping the poor and deserving. The Welsh Mission came to Shillong with the motive of having a centre where patients could come for their health care needs without the burden of insufficient finances. This has been upheld by the hospital as seen by the many charitable missions it takes up. Even though the RHCs have done much good for helping the deserving in the villages several cases still end up in the hospital for expert care. For patients whose financial constraints would have otherwise denied them access to adequate healthcare Dr. H Gordon Roberts hospital has set up the “Poor Patients Fund”, now known as “Person to Patient Fund” to ensure that these patients receive the treatment they need.
The hospital has an internal protocol and a social worker who will aid in the selection of patients who benefit from this fund. This fund will cover deserving in-patients of the hospital.
