With the success of the Health Centre at Mawphlang the elders of Laitmawsiang were also interested in setting up a centre for their areas. Laitmawsiang, about 58 kilometers from Shillong, is a central location accessible by thirteen villages.
In 1966 the travelling dispensary would make its way through Laitmawsiang but there were plans for a full-fledged health centre. With a generous grant from OXFAM the work was started for a health centre. The foundation stone was laid by Dr.N. Tunnel, the then S.M.O. of the Jowai Presbyterian Hospital on the 17th of Decembers 1969.The work in the new clinic began in May 1970, still on weekly visits only. Regular work started only after Sister Milliona Lyngdoh, specially trained in Public Health Work, and Staff Nurse Shaicilv Dohling went there to stay on the 27th of August 1970.
The centre is running successfully and concentrates on preventative care to meet the needs of the people. The clinics are usually held on Mondays and Wednesdays, when the Doctor, along with the Nurses from the Mawphlang Centre, attend.
