Blood Centre

Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital’s Blood Centre is an integral and essential part of the Hospital which can save lives and improve health of individuals requiring transfusion.

The Blood Centre of H. Gordon Robert’s Hospital, with License No.15/DL/BB/MFG has also established a Blood Transfusion utility that aims to provide effective blood by giving screened whole blood which is safe and adequate to meet the patients’ needs.

Services

  • Development of Quality Control System in all areas and strictly following National Guidelines to ensure blood safety and minimize the risk associated with blood transfusion.
  •  Collecting blood only from voluntary, non-remunerated and family/friend replacement blood donors from low-risk population. Blood is not collected from Professional Paid Donors.
  •  Screening of all donated blood for Transfusion Transmitted Infection (TTI), like HIV, HBV, Syphilis and Malaria.
  • Development of good laboratory practices and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in all aspect of donor selection, screening and blood collection; blood grouping, compatibility testing and antibody screening; screening for TTI; optimum storage of whole blood, samples, reagents and kits; quality assurance of reagents and equipment maintenance; issue, transportation and clinical administration of blood; bio safety and safe disposal; management of adverse reaction in a donor and post donation care; recognition, management and reporting a transfusion reaction;, besides other miscellaneous procedures.
  •  Maintaining good record keeping and documentation.
  • Regularly training and updating the Blood Centre staff through various training’s, including In-house, State and National level Training Programs.
  • Promoting and strengthening Voluntary Blood Donation and its importance in the Blood Transfusion Service.
  •  Adopting Appropriate Clinical use of Blood to avoid unnecessary transfusion.
