Timeline of Important Events

1915 – The construction of building of the hospital started by Dr. H G Roberts

1919 – The Government forwarded a grant of towards the hospital building

1922 – Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital was inaugurated by the then Governor of Assam, Sir William Maris

1926 – Lord Reading, the then Viceroy of India, visited the hospital

1931 – Lord Irwin, the then Viceroy of India, visited the hospital

1931 – The Maharani of Gwalior visited the hospital

1933 – Lord Willingdon, the then Viceroy of India, visited the hospital

1935 – Dr Llewelyn Williams, CBE, DPH, FRCS a member from the Commission from Wales visited the hospital with suggestions for improvement

1939 – Dr. R. A. Hughes arrived in Shillong. Instrumental in many developments for Dr. H Gordon Roberts Hospital

1942 – Dr H. Gordon Roberts retired from his formal position as administrator of the hospital

1947 – The start of the travelling dispensary by Dr. Hughes which travelled to various villages on market days ,in memory of Miss Margaret E Buckley the 1st Matron of the hospital & pioneer in Nursing Service &  Nursing Education

1948 – Lord Mountbatten, the Governor General of India, visited the hospital

1960 – Dr. Hughes started a scheme of encouraging Khasi Students to take up M.B.B.S courses by giving a scholarship of Rs. 50 per month.

1962 – The official handing over of the hospital with all its equipment and assets to KJP Synod

1964– The inauguration of the Rural Health Centre in Mawphlang

1967 – The hospital was registered under the Indian Societies Registration Act 1860.

1969 – Dr R.A Hughes left Shillong after 30 years of service with the Hospital

1969 - The Inauguration & Dedication of the Rural Health Centre in Laitmawsiang by Dr.Norman Tunnel, 1st MS of Dr.Norman Tunnel Hospital in Jowai.

1972 – Golden Jubilee of Dr. H. Gordon Roberts Hospital then known as the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Hospital Shillong

1976 – The old buildings of the hospital were demolished except for the O.P.D, Children’s Ward, the European Ward, the Maternity and ‘Armala’ block

1984 – The first Administrative Officer was appointed in the hospital

1996 - The Inauguration & Dedication of the Rural Health Centre in Thangsning

2006 – Addition of ICU, Minor Operation Theatre, Oxygen Manifold System & Diabetic Clinic.

2010 – Inauguration & Dedication of the ICTC Department

2011 – Inauguration& Dedication of the Dialysis Unit

2013 – The hospital collaborates with Bansara Eye Centre to set up an Eye Care Clinic

2018- Inauguration & Dedication of -

  • Armala Annexe – 4 Single Rooms & 2 Double Rooms
  • Renovated Office Department

2019- Inauguration & Dedication of -

  • The renovated & upgraded Emergency & Trauma Care Unit
  • The renovated & upgraded Operation Theatre Complex
  • The renovated CT Scan Room and the (donated) new CT Scan Machine

2019 – Golden Jubilee Celebration of RHC Laitmawsiang

2020 – Inauguration & Dedication of -

  • The Renovated Armala Ward (Semi-Private Ward)
  • The ramp & ARI (Acute Respiratory Illness) Clinic - Funded by Ktiew Ems Trust –UK London (FCRA 2020-2021)

2021– Inauguration & Dedication of -

  • The renovated & Upgraded Maternity Ward -Funded by Ktiew Ems Trust, UK London (FCRA2020-2021)
  • Human Milk Bank, first in the state of Meghalaya donated by Rotary Club of Shillong
  • Renovated & Upgraded Children’s Ward – Partly funded by NEEPCO
  • Renovated & Upgraded NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
  • College of Nursing Block (Vertical Extension) funded by Presbyterian Church Of Wales (FCRA 2020-2021)
  • Rural Health Centre Myriaw – The 4th RHC of the hospital

     2021 – Silver Jubilee Celebration of RHC Thangsning

2022 – Inauguration & Dedication of -

  • Child Developmental Therapy Clinic
  • College bus of College of Nursing
  • Fire Fighting system installed in the hospital (Partly funded by PCW-FCRA 2021-2022)
  • Oxygen Generation Plant - collaborative project between Government of Meghalaya & Presbyterian Church of Wales (FCRA 2021-2022)
  • Redesigned Margaret E Buckley Memorial Hall (Hospital Hall) –Partly funded by Ktiew Ems Trust (FCRA 2021-2022)
  • Redesign Main Entrance Drive way of the Hospital – Funded by Dr. D. D. Lapang & Smti. Amethyst L. Blah
